My name is Judye. I added the "e" when I was in the 7th grade and even though my father still won't use it, it was my first creative act that stuck. I’m an artist. I live in Fort Worth, Texas with my husband, Karl. We share our lives with a large Great Pyrenees named Sunny, and a small black and white cat named Annie. We live in an 80-year-old farmhouse with several wooded acres. It’s a great place for wildlife and art. The occasional police helicopter and sirens let us know we are still in the city, but we don’t care. There is still a family of gray fox, plentiful raccoons, possums, and even a great horned owl. Karl drives around the property proudly seated on an old tractor, a Ford 8N. He is approaching retirement age (57) and still wondering what to do with his life when he grows up.
My academic training includes an MA in sculpture and an MFA in photography. I was a tenured Associate Professor of Art for many years. Since Karl built the two story studio behind our house, my sculpture has gotten surprisingly small. I create surrealistic clay environments, beds, envelopes, cowgirls, flying pies or whatever seems to pop into my head. I sell these sculptures as well as framed digital prints of them at Museum stores and galleries in Texas.
I became a videographer for several years and enjoyed creating stream of consciousness art films until I found myself taping weddings and dance recitals for friends and friends of friends. I hated the pressure so I switched to digital prints.
I bought my FD-91 to take background shots for my sculpture. With my paint programs, I can quickly combine the two images into an unusual print. This amazing web site has renewed my interest in photography and has also been a mini-school for me. Since I am a self-taught computer freak, I have much to learn. Thanks to all of you considerate Mavicans who so generously share your knowledge; I am learning something new every day.
